The police raided No. 40 Missouri avenue and arrested "Mrs. M. Shear, Mary Hanna, Elizabeth Gray, (white,) and Mary Jane Bell, (colored,)." Mr. Shear appeared at the Fourth Ward Station, where the women were being held, and "demanded his property." He was arrested. Mr. and Mrs. Shear were held on $500 bail. The white women were fined $5.58 each, "and Mary Jane Bell, the colored servant, was discharged."
