The military took over the Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary for this hospital. They used "the Main Building, the North & South wings, the High School and St. George's Hall on Seminary Hill, some 2 miles from Alex." The first few weeks it was opened, the site was a post hospital.

Hamilton, George W.

  • Aged 22 years; admitted to Fairfax Seminary Hospital with typho-malarial fever. Although Hamilton was treated at Fairfax Seminary, the dates of his stay are uncertain. According to The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion (MSHWR), Hamilton died on the 22nd of August, three days after being admitted to Fairfax Seminary. The American Civil War Research Database (ACWRD), however, lists Hamilton's date of death as being ten days earlier, 12 August 1862.
