According to The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion, Attig died as a result of a head wound received 7 November 1863. The American Civil War Research Database reports, however, that Attig survived the war and was discharged due to wounds on 7 November 1863.

  • According to The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion (MSHWR), Attig was injured on 7 November 1863 and admitted to Harewood Hospital, where he was treated by Bontecou. The MSHWR also indicates that Attig died while under care at Harewood Hospital. The American Civil War Research Database indicates, however, that Attig survived the war and was merely discharged due to wounds on 7 November 1863. Despite this discrepancy in information, it seems likely that both sources refer to the same soldier.

49th Pennsylvania Infantry

  • According to The American Civil War Research Database, Attig enlisted as a private into the 49th Pennsylvania, and he was discharged from the regiment due to wounds on November 7, 1863. The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion suggests, however, that Attig was injured on 7 November 1863 and was a member of this regiment until his death on 24 November 1863.
