  • Wells enlisted into G Company of the 71st Pennsylvania Infantry as Private. According to his record in The American Civil War Research Database, Wells was later transferred to the 69th Pennsylvania Infantry. The roster for the 69th Pennsylvania Infantry, however, lists only one soldier by the name of John Wells. The record for this regiment indicates that Wells was a member of the 69th Pennsylvania Infantry from his date of enlistment until July 1865.
