Sir,

Mrs Alfred Scott of Georgetown D.C. having claim to the service or labor of the undersigned, and having refused or failed to file in your Office the statement or schedule provided for in the 9th section of the act of Congress entitled "An act for the release of certain persons held to service or labor in the District of Columbia." Approved 16th April 1862.

You will please file the annexed schedule in pursuance of an act supplementary to the above recited act approved 12th July 1862. The undersigned resided in said District before and at the time of the passage of said supplemental act with said owners consent.

I know all the facts stated in the Schedule to be true as stated To my knowledge Mrs Scott owned this servant. Mrs Scott left here more than a year ago for the south leaving this servant to take care of herself. She made some provision through me for the servant which I attended to.
The servant was here by Mrs Scotts consent.
J. Carter Marbury (summoned) I know the facts as stated by Mr Dent. Mrs Scott who had a brother in Alabama, where she came from, left her at the beginning of the [troubles?] leaving the servant Margaret who was maid for Mrs Scotts daughter. Mrs Scott had set aunt of Margaret free.
