Fletcher R. Veitch of Maryland having claim to the service or labor of the undersigned and having refused or failed to file in your office theT Statement or schedule provided for in the 9th Section of the Act of Congress entitled "An Act for the release of certain persons held to service or labor in the District of Columbia, approved April 16, 1862.
You will please file the annexed schedule in pursuance of an Act supplementary to the above recited Act approved July 12th 1862. The undersigned had been actually employed in this District at the time of the passage of the first recited Act with the consent of his owner the said Fletcher R. Veitch, and has been since continuously employed in said district with the like consent of his said owners.

Samuel Ma[t?]thers. We came to District in February last. I was cook.
He drawed wood until May to our fort and all forts in our neighborhood fort Lincoln afterwards Fort Saratoga. He brought us wood until August or September when I went to the Hospital.
I belong to 112 Pa—2d Artilery—now at Fort Saratoga
James Newman I know this boy he carted wood [illegible] May and when he quit carting them, he carted wood to the other forts in this District The master was the contractor for the wood which was carted The wood was all in District.
The family of Francis was in Washington.
