The police raided the "notorious den on Ninth Street" kept by Adam Meyers and his wife on Sept. 28, 1862. Justice Thompson held Adam Meyers for trial, and demanded $20 security for the good behavior of the five girls arrested. They were released upon the promise of leaving the city. The names of the girls were not given in the newspaper report. "The military gentlemen captured by the police in these dens of infamny, were conducted under police escort to the military prison at the central guardhouse."
