There is a slight discrepancy between sources regarding this soldier's name. The
Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion (
MSHWR) lists a "C. A. Bartlette" as a member of the 5th Vermont. However, according to
The American Civil War Research Database (
ACWRD), "Charles J. Bartlett" appears on the roster for this regiment. And, while no C. A. Bartlette appears on the roster, this source indicates that these variant names refer to the same soldier, noting that the name "C. A. Bartlett" appears in
Roll of Honor: Names of Soldiers Who Died in Defense of the Union (1868).
Bartlett's birth date range is calculated based upon his age as given in the medical cases. Bartlett was 23 years old when he was admitted for treatment on 1 November 1861. Barlett's date of death is given as 4 November 1861 in the
ACWRD and as 3 November 1861 in the
MSHWR.
