  • Bittenbender enlisted into E Company of the 95th Pennsylvania Infantry as Private. According to The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion, he was mustered out of service at Washington, DC in 1865. The American Civil War Research Database, however, indicates that he was discharged due to injury in late 1864.
