Relationship information: Beals enlisted into G Company, 59th New York Infantry as Private. On 1 November 1861, he was transferred to B Company and on 25 June 1863 he was transferred to C Company. While serving the 59th New York Infantry, Beals moved up through the ranks. At the time of his death, he was First Sergeant.
