Relationship information: Cotter enlisted into E Company of the 9th New Hampshire Infantry as Private. He was discharged due to disability resulting from an injury he sustained while serving this regiment. The precise date of his separation is unclear, however.
The American Civil War Research Database
indicates that Cotter was discharged in June 1865, while
The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion
dates his discharge from service in October 1866.
