On Sept. 20, 1862, all of the general hospitals in Alexandria were organized into three divisions. These "divisions" were not connected to any army divisions, so the terminology is confusing. The 1st Division General Hospital had six branches: Mansion House, Fairfax St., Wolfe St., Soldiers' Rest, King St, and St. Pauls. See each of these separate branches for the dates of their relationships with the 1st Division. When this general hospital closed, its patients were transferred to the 2nd and 3rd Division General Hospitals, and to the Fairfax Seminary General Hospital.
