Ascension Chapel (Church of the Ascension)

Boyd's Directory lists the location of this church building as on H north, between 9th and 10th west.

Ernest B. Furgurson includes this church among the three that "the government was taking over...for military hospitals" in March of 1862, because its minister, the Rev. William Pinckney, objected to Bishop Whittingham's demand that a prayer of thanksgiving for Union triumphs be given in Episcopal churches in the District. (182-183)
