CASE.—Corporal Richard H. Van Devine, Co. K, 1st New Jersey Infantry, aged 28 years, received, at the battle of SpottsylvaniaSpotsylvania, Virginia, May 12th, 1864, a gunshot wound of the scalp. He was admitted, on June 11th, to the Mount Pleasant Hospital, Washington, D. C., and, on June 20th, transferred to the Summit House Hospital, Philadelphia. At the period of his admission he was very much reduced, and he died, on July 10th, 1864, "of diarrhœa." Surgeon J. H. Taylor, U. S. V., records the case.
