CASE 12.—Private Wellington McSparren, company F, 169th Pennsylvania volunteers; admitted July 11, 1863, with diarrhœa of three weeks standing. ℞. Nitrate of silver ten grains, laudanum twenty-five drops, water one ounce. Use as an enema. This was retained one hour, after which the patient had but one passage daily until July 14th, when he had seven passages during the twenty-four hours. The injection was then repeated, after which the patient had but one stool daily, and was discharged cured July 21, 1863.
