CASE.—Corporal Charles A. Chapman, Co. E, 11th New Hampshire Volunteers, aged 18 years, was wounded at the battle of Fredericksburg, December 13th, 1862, by a conoidal ball, which shattered the superior and inferior maxilla, left side. He was, on December 20th, admitted to Carver Hospital, Washington. The ball was extracted near the clavicle. On January 5th, secondary hæmorrhage occcurred>occurred from the branches of the internal maxillary artery, amounting to sixteen ounces of blood, which was controlled by compression. He was discharged February 11th, 1863. He was pensioned, his disability being rated total.
