CASE 13—Private Louis Roberts, Co. A, 32d Ala.; age 21; admitted Oct. 29, 1864. Debility and diarrhœa. Died 31st. He was insensible when admitted. Post-mortem examination: The pericardium contained six ounces of clear serum; the surface of the heart was corrugated and its substance softened; the right ventricle filled with a white clot, which extended along the pulmonary artery until its divisions were no larger than a pin. The omentum was enlarged and the abdominal viscera adhered to each other and to the diaphragm. The liver was much softened; the gall-bladder contracted to about a quarter of an inch in diameter.—Rock Island Hospital, Ill.
