                        <p> <hi rend="initialcap">C</hi>ASE 43.&#8212;<name type="person">Private E. A. Chamberlain</name>, <name type="organization">3d Vt.</name>; age 27;
                                admitted <date type="admit" when="1864-02-28">Feb. 28, 1864</date>, with pneumonia.  He was improving
                                under treatment when, on <date type="injury" when="1864-03-15">March 15</date>, he was seized with
                                vomiting, fever and cough, with blood-tinged <choice><orig>sputa</orig><reg>sputum</reg></choice>.  He died
                                        on <date type="death" when="1864-03-23">the 23d</date>. <hi rend="italic">Post-mortem</hi> examination: Left lung hepatized
                                        throughout except anterior margin of upper lobe; lower part
                                        of right lower lobe impervious, much of the remainder
                                        congested; but little pleuritic effusion; pleura in
                                        several places much inflamed, especially near the
                                        pericardium. Several ounces of limpid serum in the
                                        pericardial sac. Liver cirrhosed, atrophied, dense,
                                        mammillated, puckered.&#8212;<hi rend="italic"><name type="hospital" key="189">Third Division Hospital</name>, <name type="place">Alexandria, Va.</name></hi> </p>
