                                age 18; contracted measles about <date type="injury" when="1864-04-05">April 5, 1864</date>, while at
                                <name type="hospital" key="502">Soldiers' Rest</name>, <name type="place">Alexandria, Va.</name>; admitted to <name type="hospital" key="189">Third Division hospital</name> <date type="admit" when="1864-04-23">April 23</date>, and transferred to this hospital <date type="transfer" when="1864-05-07">May 7</date>.  Health much impaired; pain in left side; tongue coated;
                                fever; slight dyspn&#339;a; quick pulse; <choice><orig>dulness</orig><reg>dullness</reg></choice> on percussion
                                        and absence of respiratory murmur in posterior and inferior
                                        parts of left lung. Gave milk-punch, two ounces, every two
                                        hours.  12th: <choice><orig>Dulness</orig><reg>Dullness</reg></choice>; crepitation in right lung posteriorly
                                        and inferiorly. Gave of sulphate of quinia two grains every
                                        three hours; continued milk-punch.  19th; Severe cough;
                                        sleeplessness. Added anodynes.  25th: Less <choice><orig>dulness</orig><reg>dullness</reg></choice>
                                        posteriorly, increasing anteriorly in left side;
                                        muco-purulent <choice><orig>sputa</orig><reg>sputum</reg></choice>. Continued treatment; gave brandy, half
                                        an ounce every three hours, instead of milk-punch.  June
                                        25th: Physical signs of disease persist. Gave tonics and
                                        astringents.  <date type="furlough" when="1864-07-01">July 1</date>: Furloughed.  <date type="admit" when="1864-07-18">18th</date>: Transferred to hospital at <name type="place">Augusta, Me.</name>  <date type="duty">September 28</date>: Returned to duty.&#8212;<hi rend="italic"></hi><name type="hospital">Turner's Lane Hospital, Philadelphia</name>, Pa.<hi rend="italic"></hi> </p>
