CASE 27.—Post-mortem examination nine hours after
death: The intestines were half filled with a frothy,
semi-fluid, bloody mass; Peyer's patches were ulcerated into
deep excavations bounded by thickened and indurated edges;
the solitary follicles were ulcerated throughout both small
and large intestines; many of the ulcers penetrated to the
peritoneum. The spleen was enlarged and softened; the other
organs normal.—
